Terms and conditions

Important: Echo Vault may contain mistakes. Before using any information in patient care, you must independently verify the original source, the measurement and the applicability to the individual animal. Acceptance does not waive rights or liabilities that cannot lawfully be excluded.

1. Parties, scope and acceptance

These terms govern access to Echo Vault (the “Service”), presented under the Veterinary Cardiology Club name. “Operator” means the person or legal entity legally responsible for providing the Service; “user” and “you” mean the individual accessing it and, where that individual has authority to contract on its behalf, their professional organisation. A brand name does not itself identify a contracting legal entity. The current private-preview contact is veterinarycrashcourse@gmail.com. The Operator’s full legal name, registered address, registration number and relevant professional details must be confirmed and disclosed before external launch.

The Service is intended for veterinary professionals and supervised veterinary trainees. You must have the competence and, where required, professional authorisation to perform the clinical activities in which you use information obtained from it. A trainee must not use the Service to circumvent supervision. You must read and expressly accept the applicable version before using the reference lookup or daily challenge. You may print or save these terms. If you do not agree, do not use those features.

2. Limited purpose; no clinical engagement

The Service provides literature-derived echocardiographic reference information and educational questions. It is an aid to locating information, not a substitute for an adequate examination, reliable acquisition, independent clinical judgment, specialist advice or appropriate professional supervision. It does not certify a measurement, diagnose or exclude disease, prescribe treatment, establish fitness for a procedure or guarantee a clinical outcome. Access, a feedback message, a quiz answer or an automated response does not create a veterinary consultation or veterinarian–client–patient relationship.

No reference interval, statistical result, colour, label, suggested population match or other output is a determination of health or disease. A value within an interval may occur in a diseased animal; a value outside it may occur in a healthy animal. Do not use an output as the sole or decisive basis for diagnosis, treatment, referral or withholding care. Do not delay urgent assessment or treatment while awaiting a response from the Operator. These purpose statements do not determine a regulatory classification or displace applicable legal requirements.

3. Mandatory independent verification: triple-check before clinical use

You retain responsibility for your professional work and must independently triple-check all clinically relevant information before relying on it. This means three substantive checks, rather than reading the same screen three times:

  1. Check the source: consult the original publication, including the relevant table, methods, definitions, corrections and limitations. Confirm the actual reference limits, statistical category, units, formula, exponent and sample population. Do not confuse a mean, confidence interval, observed range or diagnostic threshold with a reference interval.
  2. Check the acquisition and calculation: confirm the animal’s identity and signalment, image quality, view, imaging mode, cardiac-cycle timing, rhythm, caliper or trace placement, Doppler sample position and alignment, units, transcription, indexing and arithmetic. Independently reproduce any calculation material to a clinical decision.
  3. Check applicability and clinical meaning: confirm that species, breed, age, sex, body size, physiological state, sedation status and measurement method are compatible with the study. Interpret the result alongside the complete examination, history and other findings. Obtain specialist assistance when an uncertainty exceeds your competence.

If a source cannot be accessed, a method cannot be matched, results conflict or a value appears implausible, do not treat the displayed information as a verified basis for care. Resolve the discrepancy through a reliable independent source or appropriately qualified colleague. Keep an appropriate clinical record of your findings and decisions. Acceptance of these duties does not transfer responsibility for the Operator’s own unlawful conduct or non-excludable obligations to you.

4. Errors, omissions and evidence limitations

Mistakes can occur in both the underlying publications and the Service. Possible causes include extraction, transcription, abbreviation resolution, source attribution, population matching, numerical calculation, unit conversion, software defects, rounding, incomplete evidence and outdated information. An apparently precise number or a working calculation is not a warranty that it is correct. Neither the absence of a warning nor the presence of a citation signifies that a value has been independently clinically validated.

Breed-specific values are displayed where the available data support a match; general references may be displayed when no matching breed-specific reference is available. This is a retrieval rule, not a guarantee of suitability for the individual animal. Different studies and methods may legitimately yield different values. An arithmetic average across studies is not a validated reference interval. Source-specific instructions may be incomplete, and their verification status must be considered.

The Operator may correct or withdraw a reference when concerns arise. No undertaking is given to include every publication, detect every error, continuously monitor every source or notify every person who previously viewed a value. Report suspected errors through Feedback, identifying the parameter and source without disclosing confidential patient or client information.

5. Accounts, access and acceptable use

Provide accurate registration details, keep account access secure and notify the Operator of suspected unauthorised use. You are responsible for activity you authorise through your account, subject to applicable law. Do not impersonate another person, misrepresent qualifications, circumvent access controls, disrupt the Service, introduce malicious code, harvest other users’ information or manipulate challenge scores. Do not use the Service to replace required training, accreditation or professional insurance.

The Operator may proportionately suspend access to address a credible security threat, unlawful use, material breach or risk of harm. Where practicable and lawful, the Operator will give a reason and an opportunity to resolve the issue. Suspension does not remove rights or remedies that applicable law preserves.

6. Intellectual property and external publications

Except for third-party material and rights expressly reserved by law, the Operator or its licensors retain rights in the Service’s software, original explanatory content and presentation. You receive a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable permission to use the Service for its stated professional and educational purpose while complying with these terms. No ownership is transferred.

Publications and linked websites remain subject to their own rights, licences and access conditions. A freely accessible article is not necessarily licensed for unrestricted redistribution or commercial reuse. Links identify sources; they do not imply author or publisher endorsement. External content may change or become unavailable. Nothing in these terms restricts a use that applicable law expressly permits.

7. Feedback, confidentiality and communications

The Feedback form submits your message to the Service for storage in a private administrator inbox. The Service also attempts an administrator email notification when its transactional email service is configured. A submission confirmation means the message has been stored; it does not guarantee email delivery or that a person has read it. Feedback is not an emergency channel, and no response time or individual clinical consultation is promised.

Submit only information you are entitled to disclose. Do not include identifiable client or patient information, third-party confidential material or unnecessary sensitive data. The Operator may review and respond to feedback and use de-identified themes to improve the Service or develop education and tools associated with the Veterinary Cardiology Club, SkillVet, Mitralis or Sonus. You retain ownership of original feedback; you permit its use for these limited purposes without an obligation to implement suggestions or pay compensation. This permission does not authorise publication of your identity, a testimonial in your name, sharing your contact details with separate organisations or sending marketing without a separate lawful basis.

Accepting these terms is not marketing consent. Optional communications preferences remain separate and may be withdrawn. Personal information is handled as described in the privacy notice and applicable data-protection law; these terms do not waive data-subject rights.

8. Daily challenge and accumulated progress

Participation is optional. A correct answer earns one point; an incorrect answer deducts one point; skipping earns zero. Only the first accepted submission for each signed-in account and UTC day counts. Existing earned points remain recorded and scores may be negative. Challenge feedback is educational and also requires independent verification before clinical use.

Points are not a professional qualification, accreditation, certificate of competence, currency or cash entitlement. Scoreboard participation is optional and uses a chosen display name. Recorded milestones remain unlocked after later point losses. Any prize requires separately published eligibility and fulfilment terms; an unconfigured milestone does not promise an item or financial benefit. Proven technical errors or manipulation may be corrected with an explanation, without taking away mandatory rights. No new referral submission is offered in this simplified interface; previously earned points are preserved.

9. Availability, changes and warranties

Subject to mandatory law and any separate binding commitment, the Service is provided as available, without a contractual guarantee that its content is complete, current, error-free, uninterrupted or suitable for a particular clinical purpose. Hosting, authentication, telecommunications and external-source availability may affect access. Maintain independent access to reliable clinical information and your own clinical records.

Features may be changed for reasonable technical, security, clinical-quality or operational reasons. Material adverse changes to a paid service, if introduced, remain subject to applicable notice, termination and refund rights and the relevant paid agreement. These terms do not themselves authorise charges, renewals or a subscription. No disclaimer removes an essential obligation or statutory guarantee where doing so is prohibited.

10. Allocation and limitation of liability

This section applies only to the extent permitted by the law governing the particular claim and is subject in all respects to section 11. Responsibility for loss depends on the relevant acts, omissions, causation and applicable law. The Operator does not assume the role or clinical responsibilities of the treating veterinary professional.

To the extent lawfully excludable, the Operator is not liable for loss caused by a user’s inaccurate acquisition or input, use of an incompatible reference, failure to undertake the independent checks required above, unauthorised alteration of an output, or use outside the stated purpose. This does not exclude liability for a defect, act or omission for which the Operator remains legally responsible, including where it contributes to the same loss.

To the extent lawfully excludable, the Operator excludes liability for indirect or consequential commercial loss, including consequential loss of profit, revenue, business opportunity or goodwill. Characterising a loss as “indirect” does not override its classification under applicable law. No nominal or zero monetary cap is imposed by these terms. Any negotiated cap for a separately contracted service must be stated expressly and remain lawful and proportionate.

Where applicable law permits, the lawful protections in this section also extend to the Operator’s personnel, contributors and contractors acting within their authorised functions. They do not provide personal immunity, extinguish a third party’s independent rights, or create a broad indemnity requiring a user to pay for the Operator’s own fault. The user and Operator must each take reasonable steps to avoid or mitigate foreseeable loss where legally required.

11. Liabilities and rights expressly preserved

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation, intentional wrongdoing, gross negligence, or the acts of personnel where such exclusion is prohibited; death or personal injury where exclusion is prohibited; breach of an essential contractual obligation where exclusion is prohibited; or any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or restricted. Mandatory consumer, professional, data-protection and other statutory rights remain unaffected.

No acknowledgment, verification obligation, purpose statement, limitation of warranty or acceptance record operates as a release of a non-excludable duty. If a provision is unlawful or unfair, it is ineffective to the extent required by law. A general “to the extent permitted” statement does not itself make an otherwise prohibited clause enforceable.

12. Concerns, disputes and governing rules

Raise concerns at veterinarycrashcourse@gmail.com with sufficient non-confidential detail to investigate. The parties should seek a practical resolution where appropriate. This does not require you to delay urgent protective action, use private arbitration, waive collective remedies, restrict admissible evidence or let a statutory deadline expire. These terms do not shorten statutory limitation periods.

Pending confirmation of the contracting Operator and an appropriate jurisdiction-specific review, applicable law and court jurisdiction are determined by the ordinary legal rules. No exclusive foreign court or choice of law is imposed that removes mandatory rights. Separate written agreements prevail only to the extent of a direct, lawful conflict.

13. Updates, records and interpretation

Material changes will be presented for fresh acceptance before further use of the lookup or challenge. A version identifier and acceptance timestamp are recorded; revised terms do not retroactively alter accrued rights. The previous version remains available. A failure to enforce a provision on one occasion is not a waiver of later enforcement. If a provision is invalid, the remainder applies only to the extent legally capable of doing so.

These terms describe the Service as actually provided; they do not constitute a claim of legal approval, clinical certification or comprehensive protection against liability. Operator identification and jurisdiction-specific provisions require completion before external launch.
